About

Starting out with landscapes and other subjects that did not require interaction got me familiar with my photography equipment. This then opened me up to the entirely different world of portrait photography. Little did I know landscape and portrait photography basically had NOTHING in common. I had to learn to use my digital SLR in an entirely new way, but capturing the right expression in the fraction of a moment that it appears is more rewarding than any landscape.

Finally, I fell into a full time position shooting real estate and found my true calling. I can walk into any room and immediately know how to best compose the shot to show off its best features

I learned portrait photography from the great owners at Freed Spirit Photography. Starting out at schools, doing student photography in a unique way that no one else is doing, I got to practice on literally hundreds of subjects a week. We are always faced with different lighting scenarios, backgrounds, and sometime even language barriers. By stepping out of the traditional studio, taking the subject outside and spending time with each child as we go through different poses, we are able to capture a unique look not found in traditional school photography. The secret is finding a nice natural background where the sun is not interfering, and using a little off camera flash for that extra pop.
